About Susannah Martin
Depending on source, Susannah's maiden name might have been Tudor, Tudder or Meador. Most contemporary researchers lean toward Meador. At this same time there were Dutch Toeters in the Mid-Atlantic states, just to complicate matters!

On the Susannah Tudor/Meador issue. The W.S. Martin book had Susannah as a Tudor. His book was kind of like the "bible" for Martin descendants for years. Everyone always thought it was Tudor. Well, there is a marriage record in Bedford County, VA that lists William Martin md. Susannah Meador on 12/3/1782. Our William and Susannah came from VA, had all their kids there but one, before settling in Floyd Co., KY. No other William and Susannah's who fit have been found. There is a guy named V.P. Meador who has done tons of research on the Meador family. He has published quite a few books and is very strict about what he accepts, and he believes his Susannah Meador is married to our William Martin. The majority of Martin researchers agree now that Susannah was a Meador and have no clue where the Tudor even came from. No one has found a Susannah Tudor. Of course with the internet there is still stuff out there that has Tudor, maybe a few that still hold to the name Tudor, but I believe it is Meador. So, if you accept Susannah as a Meador, then there is alot documented about her ancestry. William, however, remains a brick wall and probably always will. I have a transcript of William Martin's will, if you don't have it. I also have typed up the intro on William from the Martin book if you'd like it. (it may be on my site?)
