About Samuel Alexander, I

Children: The Seven Brothers and Two Sisters

The "Seven Brothers" have been identified by the now defunct website AlexanderDNA.org, replaced with FamilyTreeDNA, site as follows:[1]

7. Samuel Alexander (ca 1657 - 1733) m. Mary Taylor

The following is taken from the book, EARLY ALEXANDERS AND CLOYD'S CREEK, BLOUNT COUNTY, TENNESSEE compiled and published by Hazel Vance Alexander and Betty Blankenship Murr in 1991:

Samuel Alexander, one of seven Alexander brothers, and their two sisters, came to the Colony of Maryland from Derry, Ireland. It is believed that they were the children of the Rev. James Alexander, of Raphoe, county Donegal, and the grandchildren of Andrew Alexander, Baron of Menstrie. Rev. James Alexander was a member of Laggan Presbytery in 1680. In The Records of the General Synod of Ulster, James Alexander and William Liston, of Raphoe were absent from meetings in 1691, 1692, and 1694, after which Liston's name appears no more; and James Alexander, always absent from meetings of the Synod, sent excuses which were accepted, and finally his death on 17 November 1704 was minuted. The name of James Alexander's wife is not of record.

Samuel, son of Rev. James Alexander, was born in the north of Ireland, circa 1657. His will was dated 29 March 1727, and probated in Cecil County, Maryland, 14 June 1733. He was patentee of Sligo, which he deeded 21 March 1723 to his son Martin the northern end thereof, adjoining Alexandria and Bullen's Range. Witnesses were his sons Francis and Samuel Alexander, Jr. The following year he gave a part of Sligo and Alexandria to his son Francis. Witnesses were his son Samuel, Jr., and John, son of his brother James. Samuel Alexander, Sr., died testate, leaving a wife Mary, and all seven of his children.

Samuel migrated from Somerset County, Maryland, to Cecil County, Maryland, about 1720/23. He died in Cecil County about 1727, his will dated 29 March 1727, and filed that same year. Samuel and Mary Taylor Alexander were parents of seven children, all born at Pocomoke, Maryland.

Samuel Sr., married, circa 1684, Mary Taylor, daughter of Elias and Comfort (Anderson) Taylor. Samuel and Mary Alexander were parents of seven children, all born at Pocomoke, Maryland:

MEMORIAL PHOTOS 1 FLOWERS 31 "Samuel Alexander & His Descendants": Samuel Alexander, true to the religion of his forefathers, assisted in establishing the first Presbyterian church in Cecil County.

The Broad Creek Presbyterian Church was near the present site of Chesepeake City, at the head of the Chesepeake and Delaware Canal. Bethel Church, erected later, is said to occupy the same site as the old Broad Creek Church. A very old cemetery adjoins the church, in which no doubt, Samuel Alexander and many of his descendants were buried, but almost two centuries have left no trace of the headstones that marked their graves.
