About Dea. Samuel Tenney
Samuel was the son of Deacon John Tenney & Mercy Parrat.
He was first married to Abigail Bailey. They had one child born 22NOV1689. Abigail died six days later on 28NOV1689 and was buried in the Old Bradford Burial Ground.
He married second, Sarah Boynton, and together they had 11 children: Mercy, John, Susannah, Sarah, Samuel, Joseph, Anna, Daniel, Jonathan, Dorothy, & Philip. Sarah died on 3APR1709 and was buried in the Old Bradford Burial Ground.
He married third, Hannah Moody. They had no children. She died on 29OCT1745 and is buried alongside Samuel in the Riverview Cemetery in Groveland, MA.
Samuel was a Lieutenant in the Continental Army; a member of the Mass. Provincial Assembly at Boston in 1725 when, 50 years before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, he was one of 30 who voted against receiving the King's Charter. He lived in Bradford and was deacon of the church there. Inscription:
"_____________ED
THE BODY OF
ELDER SAMUEL TENNEY
WHO DIED FEBRUARY
3 1747/8 IN THE 81st
YEAR OF HIS AGE"
Note: Unfortunately, the photo of headstones entered by Joy C. is incorrect! I have no way of easily deleting it. Also there are duplicate memorials for both the first and second wives of Samuel due to spelling variation.
