notes

According to New Haven records, the letters of administration on the estate of Capt. Alling Ball were granted to his widow (Sarah) and his son (Allen Ball Jr.) on July 3rd 1710.

According to the East Haven Register: 1716, Oct. 23 Sarah, widow of Capt. Alling Ball, Jun. aged 57 died.

See also: Donald Lines Jacobus, Families of Ancient New Haven, 8 (Rome, N.Y.: C. Smith, 1923-1932), 1: 108; where we find that Sarah only had one husband (Alling), and was born and died in Connecticut. And so the death date and place, here, are incorrect. The second marriage to Caleb never happened, and the purported children who were born in NJ are from some other family.
