הרב שלמה המשיך לשרת את קהילתו במסירות, עד יוני 1941. ב"יום שישי האדום", הגרמנים ריכזו את כל יהודי ביאליסטוק, וביניהם גם את מנהיגם, הרב שלמה, בתוך בית הכנסת והעלו אותו. באש יחד עם עוד 2000 יהודים שנספו בבניין הבוער.
