One of the Commissioner of Lands for the Province of West New Jersey in 1677, appointed by William Penn. Came to what later became Burlington County, NJ, with his family on the "Kent", carrying the first Quaker English settlers of Burlington County. Persecuted for his faith in England. He and wife Mary were excommunicated from the Church of England in 1668 for nonattendance. The founder of the Society of Friends, George Fox, mentions that Thomas was arrested and jailed with him for attending a Quaker meeting. Through his daughter Hannah, who married Anthony Woodward, descends President Richard Milhous Nixon. FamilySearch website has genealogical tables showing him as the ancestor of many Mormon pioneers of the mid-1800's.
