About Mary Curtis

Corrected Origins

In a nutshell, the new NEHGR article states that "Mary (Camp) Curtis was not the daughter of Richard and Magdalen (Hall) Camp, but was rather the daughter of Richard Camp of Snowes and his wife Elizabeth."

Family

Mary Campe (1563-1594) married Thomas Curtis, who was christened 25 Aug 1560 in Nazeing, Essex. He was the son of William and Agnes (maiden name unknown) Curtis. Their children were Martha, Mary, Elizabeth, Philip and William who we call "William of Roxbury."

Thomas was remarried to Mary Shelley, widow, on 3 July 1596 in Nazeing.[1][2]

Mary Camp was buried at Nazeing 24 Nov 1594.[2]

Note: The profile of William Curtis in The Great Migration Begins (page 500) names William's parents as William Curtis and his wife Agnes (maiden name unknown), but a correction in the "Addenda and Corrigenda" (page 2090) identifies them as Thomas Curtis and Mary Camp.[3][4]
