notes
William Snow was born in England in 1624. He came to New England in the ship "Susan & Ellen" in 1635 as a servant of Mr. Richard Derby, who settled in Plymouth, Massachusetts. William was an apprentice and while his age was given as eighteen at the time he came to New England, he was really eleven. He was assigned to Edward Doten on August 31, 1638 to serve another seven years at Plymouth where he was on the 1643 list of those able to bear arms. He settled at Duxbury, Massachusetts, and was later one of the proprietors and first settlers of Bridgewater, Massachusetts, where he took the oath of fidelity in 1657.
William married Rebecca Brown, the daughter of Peter Brown (who came on the Mayflower in 1620) and his second wife, Mary.
In a deed dated March 25, 1667/8, William Snow of Bridgewater, husbandman, sold to Ephraim Tinkham (the husband of Rebecca's half sister, Mary) of Plymouth, 1/3 part of a whole share of upland and meadow in Dartmouth which was granted by the Court unto Peter Browne. On November 7, 1679, William Snow of Bridgewater, sold to John Brown all his 1/3 of 25 acres of land formerly owned by Peter Brown of Duxbury, his wife Rebecca consented.
His will, dated March 9, 1698/9, and proved on March 9, 1708, mentions his wife (unnamed), sons Joseph and Benjamin; son William to maintain parents for life; and daughters Mary, Lydia, Hannah and Rebecca.
William was 84 years old at the time of his death in 1708.
