Profile of Welsh Forebears

Llewellyn J. Welsh.

Birthplace: Vere, Clarendon; Jamaica B.W.I. Date of birth: August 19, 1884. He passed on April 27, 1971. His parents: John Welsh & Martha Taylor - Welsh.

He migrated to Panama on 1909 and worked on Panama Canal construction through 1914 in the Bohio Frijoles area. In that family there were 3 girls (Tillie, Lottie & Martha) and 2 boys (Doctor & Llewellyn). With some help from Tillie, he went on to barbering in El Marañon area. He was a professional barber in every way and continued this practice for the rest of his life. He proclaimed himself to be the best foxhound hunter-barber of all times. He was also a pioneer of horse racing in Panama.

Margaret Bloomfield

Her birthplace: John Austin Charpellon, Clarendon, Jamaica. Date of birth: March 15, 1896. She passed on February 21, 1985.

Her parents: Richard Bloomfield & Eliza Bloomfield. She had a brother "Richard" who resided in Harlem NY. Her grandmother was said to passed away at 104, and also had some Hindu ethnicity. She migrated to Panama in April 1917. She worked as housekeeper for several years in the Ancon Hill area. She was also a good cook and seamstress and help raise several grands & greatgrands.

Barber Welsh and Margaret Bloomfield were married on September 1921 at St. Luke´s Church in Ancon. From that union, came 8 children, namely Calbraith (R.I.P.), Homer, Allen, Violette, Genevieve, Carmen, Margaret and Charles.

Kenneth Kwame Welsh's paternal grandfather's name was Charles Theophilus Welsh. All the men in the family (plus in our close relatives the Powells) have middle names. But Theophilus as a middle name keeps popping up over and over, the further I go back in history/genealogically.
