About the Gude surname

Originates in the region of Jylland, Denmark. Legend says that a Danish sea captain that used to navigate to England met and married a French woman and took her with him to Spain. His boat shipwrecked, he died and the widow remained in Galicia, Spain, to fend for herself and her children. As far as I know all the Spanish Gude are related. I have no idea when all of this happened or if they are several succesive stories compound in just one. I nver met anyone morefamily memebers than my spanish grandfather. There is also another branch of Gude that originates around Atlanta, US. These people are black. Possibly were slaves that inherited their master´s family name. Not related at all with the Spanish Gude. Gude is quiet common in Jylland and is an extension of Gytte, which originally meant Goth.
