The Pyne surname in England has its origins in Devon and the Norman family of 'De Pyn' which settled in and around Upton Pyne to the West of Exeter from the 12th Century. Many families today in Englnad Irlenad The USA and Commonwealth countries can be traced back to West Country Roots.
Research was undertaken in the early 20th century by an American descendant of the main Devon family, Moses Taylor Pyne and published in a number of formats, but largely through small scale private publication eg in the 4 volume 'Memorials of the Pyne Family'.
Some notable mebers of the family include, Captain Valentine Pyne a Royalist Naval commander of the English Civil was era, Thomas Salter Pyne and Engineer who made his name in Afghanistan and the watercolour artist James Baker Pyne who grew up in Bristol.
