In your tree preferences, you can customize the number of generations of ancestors and descendants to display. This comes in handy if you are viewing a very large tree. Reducing the number of generations to display will allow the tree to load faster on the page.

If you only want to see direct ancestors in the tree, simply click the check box “Direct ancestors only.” You also have the option to center single parents in the tree, which will hide the node for an unknown parent. Additional layout options available include vertical, photos only or names only. For further customization, click Names to specify how you want names displayed in the tree or use the Advanced settings to adjust your font size, date format and more.

Bonus tip: Checking the “Flip” nodes option will enable flip cards that show you more details about a profile right in your tree. Hover or click on the node to see relationship details, place and date of birth/death, occupation, About summary and more.
