Profile of the Day: David Cassidy
We’re sad to hear of the passing of David Cassidy, who died Tuesday at the age of 67. One of the biggest musical and television stars of the 1970s, Cassidy will perhaps be forever remembered as the star of the musical television series, The Partridge Family.
Cassidy was born on April 12, 1950 in New York City, New York to singer and actor Jack Cassidy and actress Evelyn Ward. After his parents divorced, his father married actress Shirley Jones, who would go on to play his mother in the hit sitcom, The Partridge Family.
By the age of 20, Cassidy was an international star. Within a few months of The Partridge Family‘s premiere, Cassidy had a number one hit single on the radio. The song “I Think I Love You” was released as the Partridge family’s debut single and quickly climbed to the top of the charts. Soon his solo career eclipsed the success of the show and “Cassidymania” swept over the public.
In early 2017, Cassidy revealed he was suffering from dementia and would retire from performing. On November 18 he was rushed to the hospital suffering from liver and kidney failure. He died three days later.
RIP David Cassidy.
