On October 22, 1966, The Supremes became the first all-female music group to have a number 1 selling album on the Billboard charts. The album The Supremes A’ Go-Go sold over 1 million copies in the U.S. and 3.5 million copies worldwide. In honor of this anniversary, we’re highlighting founding member and lead singer Diana Ross‘ family tree. As a part of The Supremes, Ross’s popularity skyrocketed and she eventually left the group to embark on her own solo career. The talented musical group’s success helped pave the way for future African American acts to find mainstream success.
