Dick Clark

It’s New Year’s Eve! Do you remember ringing in the New Year with host Dick Clark?

Today we remember the American Bandstand host who helped transform rock & roll into a cultural force. For 40 years, Clark hosted the annual special New Year’s Rockin’ Eve from Time Square in New York City. Millions of viewers wached each year as the lovable host helped countdown the ball drop as the previous year came to an end and the new year began. In December 2004, Clark suffered a stroke which left him partially paralyzed and caused some difficulty to speak. It marked the first year he would be unable to fulfill his New Year’s hosting duties. Determined to not let it deter him, Clark was back the next year to ring in 2006 alongside co-host Ryan Seacrest.

Since it first aired, the program has become a television tradition as families and friends gather to watch the musical performances and welcome in the new year together.
