Happy birthday to Harry Connick, Jr.! Today the singer turns 53.

Joseph Harry Fowler Connick, Jr. was born on September 11, 1967 in New Orleans, Louisiana. From an early age, Connick exhibited a talent for music. He learned the piano at the age of 3 and began performing publicly by the age of 5. He learned to develop his talents under the tutelage of Jazz musicians Ellis Marsalis and James Booker, who gave Connick piano lessons as a child.

In 1989, he got his big break when he was asked to provide the soundtrack for the romantic comedy, When Harry Met Sally. The film and the soundtrack were a huge success and earned Connick his first Grammy Award. He has since sold over 30 million albums worldwide.

In addition to his music, Connick has taken on roles on the big and small screens, including a recurring role on the television show Will & Grace and 3 years as a judge on American Idol.
