Happy birthday to Jodie Foster! Today the actress turns 57.

Foster was born Alicia Christian Foster on November 19, 1962 in Los Angeles, California. She was the youngest child born to Lucius Fisher Foster III and Evelyn Almond. Through her father’s branch of the family, Foster is a direct descendant of Mayflower passenger John Alden, who is her 9th great grandfather.

Foster got her start in acting at an early age. At 3, she starred in her first television commercial and by the age of 12, she received her first Academy Award nomination for Supporting Actress for the film Taxi Driver. Although she has tackled a wide range of roles since the start of her career, Foster is perhaps best known for her Oscar-winning role of Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs. In addition to acting, Foster has also found success as a director in both television and film.
