Profile of the Day: Julius Caesar
On the Ides of March (March 15) in 44 BC, Julius Caesar was assassinated in the Roman Senate by Marcus Junius Brutus and a group of Roman senators, who called themselves the “Liberatores.” His death resulted in a series of civil wars in which Caesar’s adopted heir, Ocatavius, would be victorious. Taking the name of Augustus Caesar, he would become the first emperor of the Roman Empire.
