Over 50 years ago, Gene Roddenberry introduced his vision of future exploration and discovery in Star Trek. Cast as the leader of the Starship Enterprise was William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk and Leonard Nimoy as second-in-command science officer Spock. Although the series was canceled after only 3 seasons, the show’s devoted fanbase kept its spirit alive to become a cultural phenomenon. Since the premiere of the original series, the Star Trek universe has expanded to several motion pictures and spin-off television series. Nimoy continued to reprise his iconic role long after the end of the original series’ run..

Fun fact: Nimoy came up with the famous Vulcan greeting, “Live long and prosper.” It was based on the Orthodox Jewish blessings he remembered from his childhood.
