Leonardo DiCaprio

Congratulations to Leonardo DiCaprio for finally winning his first Oscar!

The six-time Academy Award nominee finally took home the coveted prize for Best Actor for his role in the film, The Revenant. The film was inspired by the experiences of American frontiersman Hugh Glass, who had been left for dead by his companions after being mauled by a grizzly bear.

Years in the making, DiCaprio earned his first Oscar nomination 22 years ago in 1994. When accepting the award, the audience treated Leo to a standing ovation. A committed environmentalist, he used his acceptance speech as a platform to address the issue of climate change. He stated, “Climate change is real, and it’s happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters or the big corporations, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world…and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed.”
