Are you a fan of NCIS? Today star Mark Harmon celebrates his 63rd birthday! He was born Thomas Mark Harmon on September 2, 1951 in Burbank, California. His parents were Heisman Trophy winner and broadcaster Tom Harmon and artist Elyse Knox. A gifted athlete, he was the starting quarterback for the UCLA Bruins football team in college. Forgoing a career as a professional athlete after college, he decided to pursue a career as an actor. Throughout the 1970s, he landed a wide variety of roles before nabbing a starring role in the critically acclaimed medical drama St. Elsewhere. Since his big break, he’s continued to appear regularly on television, including four seasons on yet another medical drama, Chicago Hope. For the last 11 years, he’s starred in the highly successful show NCIS, which is one of the most-watched television shows on the air today.
