Profile of the Day: Pocahontas

Posted April 5, 2011 by Amanda | No Comment

Pocahontas, whose real name was Matoaka, was the daughter of Chief Powhatan. While she is remembered for helping the English colonists in the Jamestown colony, she is perhaps best known for saving the life of John Smith. On April 5, 1614 Pocahontas married Englishman John Rolfe, who was famous for cultivating tobacco in the American colonies. After her marriage, Pocahontas changed her name to Rebecca Rolfe. How are you related?
