Sir Thomas More

On February 7, 1477, philosopher Sir Thomas More was born. More is best remembered for his controversial book, Utopia. In the last years of his life, More served as Lord Chancellor and an important councilor to King Henry VIII of England. However, when he refused to accept the king as the head of the Church of England, More was tried for treason and beheaded. Today, he is recognized as a saint within the Catholic Church.
