St. Ignatius of Loyola

Today is the Feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. On July 31, 1556, Ignatius of Loyola died in Rome. He was a Spanish Knight and theologian who founded the Society of Jesus, a Jesuit order of Roman Catholic missionaries. An important figure of the Counter-Reformation, Ignatius was canonized as a saint in 1622 by Pope Gregory XV. He is a foremost patron saint of soldiers and the Society of Jesus.
