As a descendent of the Nelson family, I feel I need to correct a misinformation on this screen. The man known as Thomas Nelson, Jr. was not his son Thomas, who was known as 'Secretary Nelson' but actually his grandson by his eldest son William. Thomas Jr was the signer of the Declaration of Independence. Secretary Tom never really served in a high public office that I have found as his brother and nephew.

Secretary Thomas Nelson did have a son named Thomas that was a captain in the Army for Washington and his nephew was Thomas Nelson, Jr son of William who signed the Declaration of Independence. Thomas the secretary had 3 sons. His first was William also Thomas's brother's name, John who is my grandfather and the last was Thomas who was the Captain in the Revolution. My Thomas the Secretary served in the House of Burgess, and was a Justice. He and William were sent back to England to be educated.

No one is trying to say this Thomas was the signer. These crazy Nelson's like to repeat names as did others in this time period.
