Private User has alerted us to the fact that The National Archives of Ireland holds a collection of the wills of Irish soldiers who died while serving in the British Army. Most of these date from World War I but there is a small number from the period of the South African War, 1899-1902. The documents have been digitised by the National Archives and the first phase of this work, covering the years up to the end of 1917, is now available free online to researchers.

They are lovely originals in the soldiers own handwriting even the envelopes addressed to the family are to view with the address where the family lived at the time.
Great source

I couldn't find the Anglo Boer war ones, though - do you think they might not be up yet?

They are all mixed up but they are there, pity there are no other search options then by name

I only tried by death year.

Nothing comes up at all when you just search by death year, not even the Irish soldiers, you will need a name

Ahh. That explains it. I don't have names. Although, coincidentally, just 2 months ago I was standing under the arch in Dublin where they commemorate the Irish soldiers who fell in the South African war (- the one we call the Anglo-Boer War :-). So the names will be on my photograph. Synchronicity, hmm?
