Is there a way to download the information/tree into a word or an excel file?

You can export the tree as a GEDCOM file, which is a standard way to store such data. Keep in mind that it doesn't download everything that is on this site... unfortunately.

Also last month geni released a new tool for making an ancestor or descendants report. You can export the reports ad PDF files that have links back to each geni profile
