Hello,

I am starting this discussion because Mary Jenney was not the daughter of Thomas "Customer" Smythe, MP and Alice Smythe. Thomas Smythe did have a daughter named Mary, but she married Robert Davy. See http://www.histparl.ac.uk/volume/1558-1603/member/davy-robert-1599 and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Smythe-561

The Visitation of Norfolk says that Mary, wife of Henry Jenney was "da. of Simon Smith of Beccles, gent., also of Wynston.https://archive.org/stream/visitationnorfo00dashgoog#page/n146/mode...

I have disconnected Mary Jenney from the parents attached to her here on Geni.

Also, Capt. John Jenney of Plymouth is apparently not a son of Mary Jenney?through=6000000006444566342 and Henry Jenney and Mary Jenney?through=6000000006444566342. Some claim that he is perhaps the son of a Christopher Jenney and Avis Robertson, but this is also undocumented. The earliest reference to John is in Leiden, Holland, where he claimed he was from Norwich, but other than that nothing concrete is known about his origins. See here http://dougsinclairsarchives.com/jenne/johnjenne.htm and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jenney-2.

The Visitations of Norfolk write that John Jenney of Cressingham, son and heir [of Henry and Mary Jenney], married Temperance, with whom he had a series of children. https://archive.org/stream/visitationnorfo00dashgoog#page/n147/mode...

I have disconnected John Jenney of Plymouth from Henry and Mary (Smith) Jenney.

Sincerely,
Tamas Caldwell-Gilbert

There is a long discussion on Wikitree about the speculative origins of John Jenney with more information about the various theories: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/437893/a-way-back-royal-ancestry-for-j...
