It is an intentional, and important, feature of the design.
"make sure the profiles you are about to import do not already exist on Geni. Failure to do so may result in the creation of dozens of duplicate profiles that must be merged before you will be able to continue with the import."

You have been warned several times to cease this activity.
As it says in link above
"SmartCopy was partly created as a way to import profiles into Geni without the large duplication that GEDCOM imports would create. For many of our Curators and users, SmartCopy is the preferred way to add / update a large amount of Geni profiles. It works with Family tree Maker. https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783"
So no, it is totally not true, referring to Gedcom imports, that "There is no other way to import updates or new people on branches."
If the earlier generations are already on Geni, IT IS NOT NECESSARY OR DESIRABLE to continue Gedcom uploading. Geni maintains ONE World Tree, with (ideally) ONE profile per ancestor.
If you still need to selectively add more profiles, that's what SmartCopy is for - but be warned that it is no smarter than the user.
That is not reassuring on Smart Copy. The issue is that adding later generations means more imports. If a person has 5 children and you import the next generation that is 5 vs 1 and obviously births are happening in the later ones but also updated info and in some cases earlier ones are dying or have faulty info.
