Importing from your own private Tree and then merging may well be the easiest way, since I think SmartCopy is just for use with Public sites, but it seemed a question worth asking where the folks who know all about SmartCopy would see it.
Think it is definitely preferable to those imports you did from Ancestry (I truly majorly hate what is created on Geni when someone imports from a well-sourced Ancestry Tree)
Tagging you was a courtesy.
As an aside, FYI, in a GEDCOM import, if a Deceased Profile does not have a Death Date, it is created in Geni as living (unless they finally changed that?), which guarantees a continuous proliferation of zombies.
Michael Gordon Gilberg SmartCopy was partly created as a way to import profiles into Geni without the large duplication that GEDCOM imports would create. For many of our Curators and users, SmartCopy is the preferred way to add / update a large amount of Geni profiles. It works with Family tree Maker. https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783
I tried to use SmartCopy today after not having used it in awhile, and it doesn't seem to be working anymore. After I'm prompted to authorize access, the next thing that comes up is a blurb about HistoryLink, and a query about whether or not my Ancestors are famous historical figures. And there is also a Yellow Donate button prominently displayed, which I had not seen previously.
How do I get SmartCopy to work again?
Thanks,
Claudia
Claudia Bullock: This is the place to start to 'refresh' yourself about SmartCopy (this is a Geni Project): https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783
Once it is added as an 'extension' to your browser, the "blue arrow" icon should show on at the top of the browser. That's what you click on to initiate SmartCopy. See more at that project.
The other tools Jeff wrote (e.g. HistorySearch aka HistoryLink, Ancestor Graph, and Descendant Graph) share the same "authorization" mechanism with SmartCopy, so the occasional prompt to re-authorize (e.g. usually not more than every few weeks) will look similar for each.
I am very familiar with SmartCopy and have had lots of experience with it. It has already been added as an extension, and I've been using it for years. The blue arrow still shows up in my browser, however, now, when I click on it to initiate it, when I then provide the authorization as usual, I am now prompted with the wrong information which I just described previously. The bottom line is that SmartCopy isn't working and it isn't an issue of me not knowing how to use SmartCopy.

You could try this (copied from the project page (https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783)
Troubleshooting
Login
If you are having trouble with SmartCopy 'recognizing' your Geni account, try this:
https://historylink.herokuapp.com/logout
https://historylink.herokuapp.com/login
If that doesn't work, then you'll probably need to delete the HistoryLink cookie from the browser. The status is saved in a 'cookie' the Geni site doesn't have to be queried for authorization each time you connect to the site.
Apparently, SmartCopy DOES recognize my Geni account, but still doesn't seem to work. The reason I believe that my Geni account IS being recognized is because an icon with my picture pops up, and I'm asked to authorize access. If SmartCopy didn't recognize my account, how would it be able to find the picture associated with my login, and prompt me to provide access to that account?
Is there something I'm not understanding here?
Claudia
To be more specific, the part that isn't working is that after going to an Ancestry profile, clicking on the SmartCopy icon, and providing authorization, I should see a place where I can 'set destination' to the corresponding geni profile, but this doesn't happen. This is what is supposed to happen, based on the "How to Use SmartCopy" instructional video. It is what always used to happen in the past, but it is not happening now, and I don't know why.
Claudia
Could it be some add-on is blocking access to some sites?
Could you try another browser to see if that does work?
It may help it you make some screenshots and put those in a document you upload to your profile and share a link to that document here. That way we can better see exactly what is the problem.
I will look tomorrow to see if you still need help.
I hope I did this right, and that this link will work:

Claudia Bullock, Pamela Anne Schuwerk Mittman Stigall, [6000000027686224717]] Try it now. Looks like the server was having a problem. I restarted it and it appears to be working again.
Private User I'm getting a syntax error:

Inspect popup shows DOMExceptioon, failed to execute ...
Private User, thank you! Seems to be working fine!
Question: What if an inconsistency is correct? (I know you can ignore it, but....)
SmartCopy Consistency Check: Mahetable (Corliss) Uran born after the death of her father John Corliss, Sr.
Is correct ~ I believe he died in March and she was born in June.
Thanks!
It looks like FamilySearch may have changed their set up breaking old SmartCopy links?
Example from a 2018 profile Catherine Jurkiewicz
Alex Moes, untill Geni/SmartCopy changes the links you can modify links yourself from
https://familysearch.org/tree/#view=ancestor&person=KZZG-9NQ to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KZZG-9NQ (example for Catherine Jurkiewicz)
