Private User Is questioning the parent conflict noted by curator Angus Wood-Salomon

The “usual” genealogies seen on the internet have one wife only for his father Thomas Bird, of Hartford Mary Bird For example, http://linton-research-fund-inc.com/bird_family_tree.html

But I see where the reference to Mary Belden as second wife, not the mother of his children, comes from:

Torrey, NE Marriages: BIRD, Thomas (bef 1653, 1662?) & Mary ____ (-ca 1660, 1664+?); by 1635?, by 1637; Hartford/Farmington, CT {Bird (1855) 5; Steele 7; Goodwin-Morgan 11-14; Booth (1910) 43; Flagg Anc. 276; Fulton Anc. 53; Sanborn Anc. 57; Sv. 1:182; Morse (,1) 106-107; Utah Gen. Mag 23:23, Bassett-Preston 33, Hartford Prob. 1:97; Warner-Harrington 60} BIRD, Thomas (-1662?) & 2/wf ____ [BELDEN?]; ?Hartford {Goodwin-Morgan 2:13}

The names in { } are references to articles where the marriage was discussed. So let’s see if they can be tracked down and clarified.

I should be able to find at least something at http://AmericanAncestors.Org using my subscription. They also have an Ask the Genealogist chat, I think I’ll use it to faster locate.

I’m transferring this over to a discussion so I don’t lose the plot, and I’ve unlocked “abouts.” That was from before we had relationship locking and a flock of confused Birds. Ha!

https://www.werelate.org/wiki/Person:Thomas_Bird_%285%29 Shows three wives for Thomas Bird (d 1662)

1) Mary Belton (mother of Mary, Hannah, James and Joseph)
2) Anne Peck
3) Mary Belden in 1625 (mother of John Bird)

His emigration from England date seems to be 1639, so we can see if The Great Migration Begins has him.

Daughter Hannah Scott has been attached to the wrong parents - now fixed.

Origins

The Linton Research Fund, Inc. believes Thomas was the son of Andrew Bird (1572-1642) and Elizabeth Crumpe (1575–1637) of County Dublin, Ireland.

Immigration

Thomas Bird was in Hartford, Connecticut by 1 May 1644 when he is mentioned as owning property.[1]

Some authors have claimed that he is the same Thomas Bird who was in Boston in 1639, referred to as Thomas Bird of Monaticott at Mount Woollystone. He was granted acreage. (In 1640, Mount "Woollaston" was given town privileges and was called Braintree. RC Anderson in the Great Migration Directory entry, however, suggests that there is not enough evidence to assume they are the same man.[2]
