"When researching the descendants of Abraham Post, I was unfortunately unaware of the work of the late Donald E. Poste (1916-1990) of Buffalo, N.Y., and Newberry, S.C. Mr. Poste spent over fifty years tracing the Connecticut Post family. A copy of his manuscript has been donated to the Connecticut Historical Society and is another valuable resource for descendants of this family. I would like to mention a special word of thanks to Don E. Post, PhD of Kingwood, Texas, who has shared his research notes with me. Don is currently working on a genealogy of the family of Deacon William Post (No. 13.vii.) of Georgia, Vermont. Although the subject of the English origins of Stephen Post was not within the scope of the present article, both Don and I would like to caution researchers interested in Stephen Post's English origins. As was presented in Major, "C. W. Post", 233, based on research undertaken in the 1930s by an English genealogist, Frank W. Tyler, F.S.A., F.S.E., Stephen Post was probably the Stephen Post of Hollingbourne, Kent, whose marriage banns to Ellen Panton were published in the parish of Langley, Kent, 17 October 1625, and who subsequently had three children baptized at Otham, Kent (Bishop's Transcripts) between 1629 and 1633. He is presumably the Stephen Post who then appears at Newtowne, Massachusetts, in 1634. In the Canterbury Marriage Licenses there is also record of a license between Allen Wenn and Mary Post of Bredgar, daughter of Abraham Post of Hollingbourne, 1 March 1632, with Stephen Post of Otham, carpenter, as bondsman. It thus appears possible that Stephen was a son of the Abraham Post of Hollinbourne who married there 26 April 1595 Anne Hunte. However, as yet there is no direct proof of Stephen's parentage. A number of fantastic pedigrees have been constructed for Stephen Post based on material in "The Post Family" by Marie Caroline De Trobriand Post (Mrs. Charles Alfred Post) (New York, 1905), concerning the supposed origins of Richard Post of Long Island. Researchers should note that the material on this Richard Post in England is largely a fabrication. The late Donald E. Poste addressed this issue several times and Don and I would like to quote from a manuscript he wrote on the English origins of Stephen Post (of Connecticut): I have discussed in the past with individual correspondents and many years ago in the columns of the "Boston Transcript" the ancestry of Richard Post of Long Island as forged by H. G. Somerby. It is on the surface an utter hoax, perpetuated upon a presumably rich American, similar to the Sears and the Belden ancestry also forged by this gentleman, although far less artful. It consists of altered documents, vital statistics which are non-existent, and the stringing together of totally unrelated people, with generations in excess of 100 years. It must be noted, however, that nowhere does Mr. Somerby profess to give the ancestry of Stephen Post of Saybrook. This is an assumption made by careless American genealogists. Nor can Mr. Somerby be blamed for the fact that as soon as it became reasonably evident that Stephen Post's father was Abraham Post of Hollingbourne, Kent, more American genealogists immediately stated, with no proof whatever, that this Abraham was identical with an Abraham Van der Poest baptized in the Dutch Church of Austin Friars, London, to one Pauwel Van der Poest. The reliance upon Mr. Somerby's fake pedigree is clear, in the clinging to the name Panwell instead of Pauwel. Both author and editor would like to express thanks again to Jean Rumsey, F.A.S.G., who kindly provided most of the following corrections and additions to the article (all not otherwise attributed), and also to David L. Greene, F.A.S.G., and Judith Miller Hine Luedeman, C.G., for their contributions."

http://bocasource.com/todmar/post_main.htm He was a follower and adjerent of the Rev. Thomas Hooker. His name appears on the monument as one of the founders of Hartford, CT. He migrated first to Newtowne (Cambridge), MA in 1634, then joined Rev. Hooker's group at Hartford, CT, then to Saybrook, CT, where he purchased his first land in Oyster River in 1648. Stephen died on August 16, 1659 in Saybrook, Middlesex, MA.
