Ter gedachtenis van Jan Graaf van Egmond, Heer van Baar. Deze, op zijn twintigste jaar van Jerusalem teruggekeerd zijnde, heeft Dordrecht herwonnen, Utrecht beschermd en dei van Hoorn beteugelt; door Keizer Maximiliaan is hij tot Stadhouder van Holland aangesteld en in den gravenstand verheven, welk ambt hij 30 jaren heeft bekleed; hij heeft verscheidene kloosters, zoo te Egmond als andere, tot heiliging van het leven hersteld, de kerken en hare bedienaars in zonderheid van deze, heeft hij rijkelijk begiftigt. Uit Magdalena van Waardenburg, nicht van keizer Maximiliaan, 15 kinderen ontvangen hebbende, is hij in den ouderdom van 78 jaren overleden op den 12e September 1516.

Dynasty Egmont

John III, count of Egmont (aka Lame Jan), born on 03-04-1438 to Castle Hattem, deceased on 21-08-1516 to Egmond a/d Hoef on 78-year-old age, buried on 21-08-1516 to Egmond a/d Hoef.

(now NH-Church, no longer present for description of his grave (the so called. "bed")-see Bloys and Baby-churches NH part III pages. 24 and 25.

Jan van Egmond, was one of the first leaders of the Cods and visited the Holy places as a cross Knight. In 1483 he followed his father as Lord of Egmond and became at the diploma of Maximilian in Brussels on 12 november 1486 elevated to 1st count of Egmond.

He was Chamberlain of Maximilian in 1477, Castellan of Gorinchem in 1481. By 1483 to 1515 he was stadtholder of Holland. He bought in 1481 the glory also acquired Purmerend, Baer and Lathum, in 1491 was a Knight of the order of the Golden Fleece.

In 1504 he bought the Lordships of Hoogwoude and Aertswoude. In 1481 was Lame Jan involved in the siege and the intake of Dordrecht (hook and cod wars) see window in the large church Dordrecht. He fought against the last Corners and brought their in 1490 in the hole of brouwershaven a sensitive defeat.

In 1492, he hit the rebellion of the cheese and Bread people in northern Holland. From a relationship before his marriage with Josina van Waervershoef (c. 1482 to Andijk) became a Big bastard son Allert Van Egmond, which by the count as natural born son was recognized.

John I of Egmond, geb. 3 Apr 1438 in Castle Hattem, ovl. 21 Aug 1516 in the lock Egmond on the hoof, buried in Egmond on the hoof.

He had the nickname Manke Jan.

He was born on the Castle Hattem on 03-04-1438 and died in the lock to Egmond on 21-08-1516 and in the Castle Church buried beneath a copper Tomb, which he had in his life.

Lord of Egmond and at diploma of Emperor Maximilian, in Brussels on 12-11-1486, elevated to 1st count of Egmond. His line died in the male line in 1707

He was Lord of Baer, Purmerend (by sale in 1481) and Lathum. He bought the Lordships of Hoogwoud and Aartswoude on 05-03-1504.

Knight of the order of the Golden Fleece created on the chapter in Mechelen in 1491.

Jan van Egmond went about 25-year-old age to Jerusalem and was knighted. Returned, he supported his father in his Gelderse politics and was, at the weather appearance of heresies, one of the most strijdlustigen of the cod wars party.

In 1474 he lived with his brother Frederick on the side of Charles the bold at the siege of Neuss.

He was at the Court of Holland and Council in 1476 in 1477, likewise as his brethren, Chamberlain of Maximilian.

He did in 1479 a futile attack on Horn and then resigned as head of the Kabeljauwsen to Haarlem and the Hague. He took in the same year Lead on the Hoeksen, conquered in 1480 Wageningen and defended in 1481 if k Galloway against the Geldersen and took Dordrecht by surprise.

The next year he helped take Horn and the siege of IJsselstein breaking up. In 1483 he oorloogde in the Sticht.

After the death of the stadtholder, Joost de Lalaing was Mr Jan on 05-08-1483, as a result of the privilege, that the city of Maximilian obtained holder a landsman had to be, his successor (1483-1515).

Also in this capacity we find him annually in the field. In 1487 in Friesland as bondgenoor der Schieringers, in 1489 in Holland in the positions of Horn, Poelgeest, Woerden and other Favoured places.

In 1490 he took Montfoort and defeated French van Brederode and his following in a ship battle on the Zeeland waters. In 1492 he helped the factious Cheese and Bread people.

Hereinafter referred to as a time of peace for the country. First time in 1507 Jan again one finds at the siege of Poederoyen lock, but he was old.

In september 1515 he laid the city down and was succeeded by Count Henry of Nassau.

According to the old time one saw 1870 BL. 103, formerly in N.H. Church Egm. a/d Hoef a wooden Tomb (z.g.n.,, 's bed "), in which the copper images of Jan, the first count of Egmont and his wife Magdalena Villanueva.

Apart from a Dutch inscription showed the Tomb: the weapons of Egmond, Meurs, Lyngen, Zarwerden, Arkel, Cleve, Vera, den Berg, Brandenburg; Maellau, Württenberg, Austria, Lymery (3 or Wintzy?), Lorraine, Waardenburg, Baden.

From the first marriage are 15 children born, 8 of which died young.
