A.J. Penny served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland.

He retired from the City of Dallas Parks Department after more than 20 years of service.

Graveside services were held Monday, April 2, in Arbala Cemetery with Mike Folmar officiating. Hopkins County Military Coalition conducted military burial rites.
