"Abiud Fairchild, the Revolutionary soldier, moved from Wilkes County, North Carolina, to what is now Johnson County, Kentucky, in the year of 1808, and settled on Big Paint Creek. His home was near Fish Trap Meeting House, a famous Baptist Church building some six miles from Paintsville." The forgoing information concerning Abuid Fairchild was copied from pages 127-134 of "Harman's Station" written by Wm. E. Connelley, of Topeka, Kansas and published by the Torch Press of New York in 1910.

One of the descendants of Abiud explained the pronunciation of the name... the "u" is silent, as if the name was spelled Abid. Some persons dropped the A and called him "bid". This explains why he is called "Bierd" on the 1800 North Carolina Census. He also has been called Abina, Abind, Abicia, Abiced and Abiad. The memorial marker on his grave reads 1762-1848
