  1. Sarah FAIRCHILD was born about 6 January 1784 in North Carolina and died between 1860 and 1865 in Johnson County, Kentucky. She was first married about 1802 in North Carolina (probably Ashe County or a surrounding county) to James CURTIS. James CURTIS was born about 1780. This marriage produced two children. James CURTIS deserted his wife along with their two young children. Being without a husband with two young children to raise, Sarah is believed to have taken up with an Absolum SMITH, but it is thought that they did not marry. Absolum SMITH is believed to be the father of Sarah's daughter Anna (CURTIS) HANNAH. The father listed on Anna's death record is Absolum SMITH. By 1810, Sarah is found married to a John COLVIN with whom she had several more children. John COLVIN was born between 1785 and 1794 in Wilkes County, North Carolina and died between 1840 and 1850 in Kentucky. The marriage between Sarah FAIRCHILD and John COLVIN produced nine children.
  2. Phoebe FAIRCHILD was born about 1787 in Wilkes County, North Carolina and died about 1865 in Cumberland County, Kentucky. She is buried in Sewell Cemetery in Kettle, Cumberland County, Kentucky. She was married on 29 May 1806 to James Albert SEWELL, the son of Joseph SEWELL and Mary Gardiner TOMPKINS. James Albert SEWELL was born about 1785 in White County, North Carolina and died after 1860 in Cumberland County, Kentucky. James Albert SEWELL is believed to have been buried in an unmarked grave in Sewell Cemetery in Kettle, Cumberland County, Kentucky.

After the death of Susannah FAIRCHILD, William Andrew HARRIS married his 2nd wife, Alcy Ann LAWSON on 12 April 1836 in Floyd County, Kentucky. This marriage produced 7 known children.

Parentage of Rebecca JACKSON

The father of Rebecca JACKSON is believed to have been William JACKSON. This is perhaps the same William JACKSON that Abiud FAIRCHILD served under in the Revolutionary War, but more research is needed to determine if these two William JACKSON's were the same individual.

POSSIBLE ALTERNATE FATHER: Rebecca /Jackson/, Born c1762, Wilkes Co, NC, Death 24 January 1801, Wilkes Co, NC. Parents: Father: Robert /Jackson/. Spouse: Abiud J /Fairchild/; Marriage: 1782, Wilkes Co, NC. [3]
The mother of Rebecca JACKSON is unknown. There are a couple of possibilities however. The first possibility is Elizabeth WILLING which was given by Stanley Trimble, but no source of this information has been supplied and as such I cannot prove or disprove his statement. The second theory was posted by David Branham was that he believed her mother was Susannah Brooks. Again no source data was provided for this information.

Ashe County was cut from Wilkes in 1799. The family had not moved from where they were in Wilkes County, but the new county of Ashe encompassed where they lived. It is said that Rebecca died 4 weeks after the birth of her son Asa in Dec 1801, therefore it is an easy assumption that she died as a result of complications of childbirth.

The following quote provided by Chris Fairchild 26 Aug 2008: According to Jean Fairchild Gilmore's book, Early Fairchilds in America, under the Abiud Fairchild family, page 114-116, it says: "In 1795 Abiud is again in Wilkes County, N.C. where he appears on that county's tax list. In 1801, his wife Rebecca is supposed to have died. There is some confusion as to Rebecca's surname. For this writer, the DAR application #502690 where the applicant has put Johnson, crossed it out and entered Jackson, the name of Jackson is acceptable. There is also the argument for the surname Jackson in that one term of Abiud's enlistment of three months in the American Revolution in North Carolina was that he was under the command of Capt. William Jackson, whose daughter he could have married. There is no doubt a second marriage was to a woman whose name may have been Johnson, causing the Jackson/Johnson confusion" .

A study has been made of ALL mentions of a William Jackson in the Wilkes County area from 1786 to abt 1794. That study is provided here for your consideration. It should be read to learn how and why I have determined that Rebecca who married Abiud Fairchild is William's daughter. http://www.jacksonfamilygenealogy.com/pages/conflictingWilliamJacks...

Quote from the final paragraph of that study: "This leaves the question of Rebecca Jackson who married Abiud Fairchild. There is no proof that the Pennsylvania William, who was captured in Charleston, was even in Wilkes county. That leaves open the probability that Rebecca's father was William #1, #2 and #7. This does appear logical given the fact of Rebecca's husband Abuid serving with William as per his pension application. Also Abuid's sister Abigail married James Jackson, William's cousin. (Recent DNA testing proves the relationship between James and William.) Rebecca's daughter Phoebe married James Albert Sewell, a son of Mary Gardiner Tompkins, a step-daughter of William's sister Elizabeth Jackson Tompkins. William Jackson and his sister Elizabeth Jackson Tompkins traveled together from New Jersey to North Carolina per the Jackson Ledger. These families are all interrelated and it is an easy assumption that Rebecca belongs to this group of folks and is not the daughter of an unrelated Jackson.
