Revolutionary War Army Pension File, File Group M804, Roll 77, # s.6533, Certificate # 26315:

"I was born the Sunday beore Ascencion Day 1743 at Springfield Twp, Bucks Co." (Names of parents not given.) Res. Hamilton Twop, Northampton Co 1776 when drafted into Col. Stroud's Regiment. July mustered as Pvt. to Capt. Mack's Co. @ Mt. Bethel, Northampton Co. Served for 2 months @ various NJ garrisons including New Bunswick & Perth AMboy then discharged.

Spring 1777 drafted into the same regiment & mustered into Capt. William Farmer's (?) Company @ Springfield Twp, Northampton Co. Served in various garrisons including one near Valley Forge PA. Discharged after 2 months.

In 1779 volunteered for General Sullivan's Indian Expedition. Served under Lt. Patterson as a guard for the Stockade & Provision Depot in Hamilton Twp & remained there until the army returned fromthe campaign.

In 1780 voluntered for the PA Militia, Served in Capt. John Gregory's Company on the frontier "north of the Blue Mountain".

After the war moved from Northampton Co. to Nescopeck Twpm Luzerne Co. then Hanover and was in Newport Twp, Luzerne Co. "for he past 20 years" (Arrived there abt 1804). Was "nearly" 81 when he gave his Pension Deposition 7 Apr 1834, Date of death seems to be 23 Jan or Jul (not clear) in 1840.

(*NOTE: scencion Day is 40 days after Easter. Easter Sunday 1753 was 22 Apr which akes Ascencion Day Friday 1 June and therefore the:Sunday before" was 27 May 1753

Michigan D.A.R. Genealogical Records, 1949, pg 167: The above pension recrd was copied and also a statement by the Rev. John Dorrance, clergyman as follows - That the applicant, Abraham Arnold appears to bre about 79-81 years of age, that he is a resident of Newport Twp on 12 Apr 1834.

Pg 169: Statement from the Treasury Dept., Second Comptroller's Office, 23 Jul 1840 directing transfer of money remaining unclaimed by certain pensioners and authorizing payment of same as Treasurer of the U.S. to children of Abraham Arnold, deceased, at the rate of $40 per annum, under the law of 7 Jun 1832, has been paid at this Dept. from Sept 1838 to 4 Sept 1839....Signed by Comptroller.

Also on this note from the file is the following: "Penn. Archives, 3rd Series, Vol 23, Pg 302 lists Rangers of the Fontier, 1778 - 1782 - Abrahamm Martin Arnold - 46, Jacob Arnold - 47 & John Arnold 48..")
