About Abraham Holmes, of Londonderry, Ireland
Written as recorded:
The home lots of these grantees were together and in the same order coming south: David Morison;Samuel Morison, Abram Holmes. They were upon the west side of Beaver Brook and within the territorial limits of the west parish. Who was Abram Holmes? Parker's History says that he had married, for his second wife, Mary Morison, that he was early elected an elder in the First Church, and died in 1753, at the age of seventy. His oldest son, John, married Grizel Givean, and Samuel Morison's oldest daughter was also named Grizel. Charter David, Samuel's brother, having finally disposed of the remainder of his real estate, conveyed his personal property to Abraham Holmes, John Holmes, and Samuel Miller, June 6, 1751. Upon the whole, it may reasonably be inferred that Mary Morison was a sister of David and Samuel Morison, and that these two Morisons, and Abram Holmes, and Mary his wife came over together and from the same locality.

Abraham HOLMES with his wife, Mary MORRISON, mother-in-law Janet GIVENS, and children came to New England in 1719. They brought with them a very interesting letter from the church in Anghadowey, Ireland, signed by John Givean and David Cargill. This letter reads:
"The bearer, Abraham Holmes, Janet Givens his mother-in-law, Mary Morrison, his wife, and their two children has lived in this Congregation the most part of them from their infancy, and all along, and now in their derparture they were not onaly sober and free of publick scandle, But also of good Report and Christian Conversation, (Children excepted) now Communicants with us. And now being about to transport themselves to New England in America we have nothing to hinder their being received as members of any Christian Society, and may be admitted to sealing ordinances wherever providence may order their lot; all of which is certified at Ahadonia (Aghadowey) this 12th day of June 1719.
Recorded as written:
The northeastern part of Ireland is inhabited by a race of people, a intermixture of the hardy "metaphysical Scot" with the wit of Ireland, and to this race of people belong many of our most honored families. Abraham Holmes, the founder of the Holmes family in America, was one of those whose in blood is an mixture of the Scotch and the Irish. He was born in 1683, came to America in 1719, and had a large tract of land in New Hampshire. Before coming to this country he had married Mary Morrison, and they had one son, John, born in 1709, who was probably an agriculturist.
