About Abraham Kadetsky
According to his grandson, Arthur Kadetz, Abraham was a cofounder of the First Biesun Congregation on the corner of Gratten St. and Porter Ave. in Brooklyn, NY. The shul bought cemetery plots in Beth David and Mt Hebron and that is where many of the Kadetsky are buried. Abraham and his wife Toba were very religious and Abraham was referred to as a Rabbi. He had a van dike beard, The shul was eventually sold and was a stable and then a movie theater and was eventually torn down.
Ellis Island Ship Manifests: On July 9, 1903 two Abram Kadeckis, ages 35 and 36, arrived together on the Patricia from Biezun, Poland. On their manifest it is noted that they are cousins. They were joining their brother-in-law Josef Rosenstein at 56 Broome Str in New York.
On June 16, 1906, Taube Kadecki (42) arrived on the Finland from Biezun, Russia with Blume (16), Benjamin (9), Elie (6), Chiame (5). They joined their husband/father, Abram Kadecki at 56 Broome St, in NY.
1920 US Census: Abram (56) and Tillie (53) Kadetsky lived at 363 Bushwick Ave. in Brooklyn NY with Ely (20) and Henry (18). Abram immigrated in 1902 and the rest of the family immigrated in 1906. Abram worked a pressor. Living with them at the time was Morris (24) Sperling who worked as a salesman in a shoe store.
1925 NY Census: Abraham (53 yo) and Tillie (58 yo) who lived at 1297 Dekalb Ave with Eli (25 yo) and Henry (23 yo). They were beighbors with William (40 yo) and Dora (39 yo) lived at 1299 Dekalb Ave with Jennie (17 yo), Anna (16 yo), Gertrude (14 yo) and Philip (9 yo).
Abraham and Toba’s home was Orthodox. Leo Kadet remembers his aunt Toba being a religious woman who dressed very modestly, tznuit. Abraham gravestone states that he observed Shabbat according to Jewish law.
