28 February 1562: Letter of reversion granted by Adam Cunynghame of Dunlophill and Jean Stewart, his spouse whereby they declare that although Patrick Montgomery of Giffyng had sold to them and to the longest liver of them two and to the heirs lawfully gotten or to be gotten between them; whom failing to the nearest lawful heirs or assignees of the said Adam whomsoever, his 33s 4d worth of land of old extent of Ovirgrie lying in the Barony of Gyffyng; yet on the said Patrick Montgomery paying to them the sum of 200 merks on 40 days warning in the parish kirk of Tarbolton, they would give him regress to the said lands. 15 Octobert 1569: George Stewart as bailie on precept from Robert prior of Quhitherne to which the seal of the Chapter was appended, infeft Adam Cunnynghame of Dunlophill and Alexander McClurg as attorney for Janet Stewart spouse of the said Adam in the 16 merkland of Powtoun etc., in presence of David Murray of Brochtoun, Francis Murray burgess of Quhitherne, Cuthbert Murray and Patrick McClurg. To this transumpt the Seal of the Commissary was appended. October 1569: Feu Charter by Robert Commendator of Quhitherne and the chapter thereof to Adam Cunynghame of Dunlophill brother german to William Cunynghame of Caprington and Janet Stewart spouse to the said Adam, of the 16 merkland of Powtoun occupied by Gavin Hannay, John McCarnik, John Bowtoun, Gilbert Mertyne, Mertene Houchane and [ ] Broun lying in the parish of Craggletoun. Wit:- Peter Cunynghame, Adam Gibsoun N.P. and Thomas Wodderheid. Signed by granter. tag, no seal. There is another charter of same date, granter and grantees and lands as described above, resigned on 16th September into the hands of the Crown, with precept directed to George Stewart. 20 May 1574: Instrument of Seisin in favour of Alexander Earl of Glencairn, son and heir of William and grandson and heir of Cuthbert Earls of Glencairn, in the 5 merk land of Langmuir the lands of Alton Tilwood and Newlands (Lambrochton Third Part "Twa Hills") and annualrent of 2 shillings payable from Newlands, all lying in the barony of Kilmaurs and formerly wadset by Cuthbert and William Earls of Glencairn to Hugh Earl of Eglinton deceased (See GD39/1/36) and redeemed by the said Alexander Earl of Glencairn from Hugh then Earl of Eglinton [mentioned in the precept William Cunningham of Caprington, son and heir of the late John Cunningham of Caprington, Adam Cunningham brother german of the said William, witnesses to the instrument William Cunningham in Irvine], grandson and heir of the said Hugh Earl of Eglinton proceeding on a precept from Chancery dated 20 May 1574. 18 April 1579: Instrument of Transumpt at the hand of James Hadden N.P. and Commissary Clerk of Wigton narrating that Mr. William McGowyne rector of Mynto and Commissary of Wigton at the instance of Adam Cunnynghame of Dunlophill for whom William McCulloch was procurator, authorised extract to be made of a protocol from the protocol Book of the deceased Nicholas Murray N.P. which was in no way vitiated or cancelled. 20 December 1587: Retour held in the Tolbooth of Wigton in presence of Andrew Agnew sheriff of Wigton and his deputes by the following assize,- William McClellane of Nuntoun William McClellane of Gelstoun, John McCulloch of Torhous Alexander Gordoun tutor of Crechlew, William Houstoun of Coltreoch, George McCulloch of Torhous, Archibald McKee of Mertoun Hereis, Archibald Muir in Areowlan, Peter McDowell of Machirmoir, Patrick McKee of Drum buy Michael Wallace notary, Patrick McKee in Librek, Symon McCristeine of Clonche, John McKee of Glassach and Robert Gordoun tutor of Grange who find that Alexander Cunynghame is son and heir of the deceased Adam Cunnynghame of Colynane in the 16 merklands of Powtoun with its grain and fuller mills called the Waulkmylne of Powtoun in the parish of Crugiltoun, and that the lands are worth £36 scots in ferme and are held of Patrick Prior of Quhitherne in feu, and that the said Adam died in July last, 1587. 21 February 1587-88: Instrument of Sasine at the hand of Herbert Andersoun N.P. narrating that John Hannay of Kirkdaill as bailie depute of Andrew Agnew sheriff of Wigton conform to Crown precept under the Quarter Seal dated 7 Feb. 1587 infeft Alexander Cunnynghame as heir to his father the deceased Adam Cunnynghame of Colynlane in the 16 merklands of Powtoun and its mills and parish of Crugiltoun. 1 August 1593: Crown Charter to Alexander Cunnynghame of Powtoun son and heir of deceased Adam Cunnynghame of Dunlophill, of the 16 merkland of Powtoun. [See R.M.S. 1593/1608-4]. Crown precept was issued the same day. The lands had been resigned by Alexander and had been occupied by Gavin Ahannay, John McCarnik, John Bowtoun, Gilbert Martene, Martin Hathorne and William Brown. Under the Quarter Seal.
