"Adam3 Gastineau was born 14 February 1830 Greene County, Indiana. He married Elizabeth Nantz 26 September 1850 Greene County, Indiana [Greene County, Indiana, Marriage Records, Book E, p. 206]. He moved his family to Shelby County, Illinois, sometime between 1853 & 1857. On 15 Augus 1862, he enlisted in the Shelbyville Volunteers, which became Co. D, 35th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was wounded in the face and neck at Chickamauga, went on furlough to recover, and then died of smallpox while at home visiting his parents, 1 December 1864, near Linton, Greene County, Indiana. (A bit of irony there. . . .)

He married Mary Klink, daughter of John Klink & Martha Ramacher, 12 December 1879 Greene County, Indiana [Greene County, Indiana, Marriage Records, Book K, p. 478]. He retired from farming in 1893. He appeared on the 1900 census in Stockton Township, Linton, Greene County, Indiana, ED 37, p.225B:
