About Admiral Thomas Pasley, Baronet
ADMIRAL SIR THOMAS PASLEY, BARONET
Admiral Sir Thomas Pasley, Baronet, is the fifth son of James Pasley of Craig. According to the Complete Baronetage he was born at Craig on 2 March 1734, Complete Baronetage but while there seems to be no good reason for doubting his date of birth it seems possible that his father had not yet taken up residence at Craig. This possibility is suggested by the fact that Thomas had a younger brother named William who may have been born at Burn in Westerkirk on 10 July 1738 and a younger brother named Charles who may have been born while his parents were residents of Murtholm.
His Baptism
The baptism of Admiral Sir Thomas Pasley, Baronet, was registered on 4 March 1734, at Westerkirk parish in Eskdale, Dumfriesshire, Scotland. His baptismal record reads as follows: "Bapt to James Paisley of Craig a son called Thomas". [National Records of Scotland, Westerkirk Baptisms, 1693-1820, reference OPR.854/1]. His mother's name is not mentioned in his baptismal record but there seems hardly any doubt that he was the son of Magdalen Elliot, his father's first wife.
