About Albert Bidden Allison
Inscription on tombstone: In Loving Memory of Capt. Albert Bidden Allison D.C.M. Born February 1864. Died September 1944. An old pioneer. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.
The day of the 30th October 1899 became known as Mournful Monday, and so it was for Albert Bidden Jnr. and Arnold Abraham Allison, as they were captured by the Boers and were sent off as POWs -- according to Cobi sharing cell 16 with Winston Churchill for a time, and then to Waterval in Pretoria.
Cobi tells us that her sisters husband (Albert Bidden) was badly wounded and it was only thanks to Buller that he could be taken to the Welsh hospital in Pretoria.
