Alexander Le Grande was born on December 25, 1732, in Goochland County, Virginia, USA. His parents were Jean Pierre LeGrand and Jane Magdalen LeGrand.

Alexander married Elizabeth Lucy LeGrand (Walker) on November 23, 1757, in Cumberland, Virginia, USA. Together they had the following children:

He died on March 21, 1822, in Prince Edward County, Virginia, USA, and possibly was buried in Old City Cemetery, Lynchburg, Lynchburg City, Virginia, USA.




  • Served as a Land Processional for Vestry from 1763-1767
  • Prince Edward County Court issued him a permit for a Flour Mill in 1795 on the Appomattox River.
  • Petitioned the General Assembly in 1795 to establish a town on a tract of land he owned (Near Hampton-Sydney College) which thought would be a proper place for an island town. The request was granted, authorized by the trustees, James Morton, Josiah Le Grande, Baker, Le Grande, and others, to lay off 25 acres into 1/2 acre lots with convenient streets, to this town given the name of Germantown, The name survives in a road leading to the site.
