"The lineal representation of the Founder of the Clan Macrae was continued in this eldest son Alexander of Inverinate, who was Chamberlain of Kintail. Alexander’s first wife was Margaret, daughter of Murdoch Mackenzie, second Laird of Redcastle, by whom he had two sons, Duncan of the Silver Cups, and John, who was the last Episcopalian Minister of Dingwall, and who wrote the Clan Macrae History and Genealogy. He also wrote an important History of the Mackenzies. Pages 70 to 72. Alexander also had two daughters, Catherine (or Christina) and Mary. The second wife of Alexander of Inverinate was Mary, daughter of Alexander Mackenzie, fourth Laird of Dochmaluag, by whom, he had seven sons, Alexander, Donald the last Episcopalian Minister of Kintail, Christopher, Farquhar, Murdoch, Allan, and Hugh. The descent of both of his wives can be traced to the Royal Houses of Stuart and Plantagenet and of France. Pages 70 and 369 and 370. We are descended from Alexander and both of his wives through our third, second and first great grandmothers. "
Alexander of Inverinate was the eldest son of Rev. Farquhar, above, and he was the Chamberlain of Kintail. He inherited all the lands that had been in the family for generations, namely Inverinate, Dorisduan, and Letterimmer. He is mentioned in the valuation Roll of the county of Ross in 1644 as owner of lands in Kintail of the yearly value of 266 lbs. 13 s. 4 d. Scots. His first wife was Margaret Mackenzie of Redcastle, whose descent can be traced to the Royal Houses of Stewart, Plantagenet and France.
