Alexander James SHUTE

Born 29 November 1881 Peeress Town Timaru.

By Dug Mellon - a greatnephew of Alex SHUTE. In 1990 while on the container Ship Aotea,Dug arrived in Napier and went to the Sexton's house to fine out where Alex SHUTE was buried.The Sexton knew the exact site,he look's after seven cemeterys and Alex died in 1948. Also he told me that Alex had a mate called Desmond Hill a builder and that they were related? Alex was mentioned in a book called "Back Country Tales" by Lester Masters Pub; 1960.Also about SHUTE Hut.Have photo copy of item's.A radio programe by Lester Masters on the 10-11-1954,was about the life of Alex SHUTE and was very interesting,also amusing tales in it.The radio transcription is held in the Napier Library local collection.I have a copy of the radio programe. Alex used to name his dogs after drinks,brandy,whisky,ect.

SHUTE - On 25th November 1948,at Napier Alexander James SHUTE,of Kereru, Hawke's Bay aged 65 years (late 1st N.Z.E.F.). The funeral will leave our Chapel Thackeray Street,Napier,tomorrow (Saturday)at the conclusion of a service commecing at 11:30 am.for Park Island Cemetery. B.G. NICHOLSON & SON LTD.
