About Alexander Stewart, of Voluntown
Not the same as Alexander Stewart, 4th Earl of Galloway
Alexander Stewart was in New London, Conn. in 1720, where his youngest son Samuel was said to have been born on the high seas, was baptized July 24, 1720. Alexander settled in Voluntown, Conn., while some of his sons located in East Haddam. On Apr. 28, 1727 Alexander Stewart of East Haddam bought land in Voluntown of Samuel Whalley. On Jan. 20 1728-29 Alexander Stewart of Voluntown bought land in Voluntown of Charles and James Campbell. On Sept. 25 1740 his son James of Voluntown deeded land in Volluntown to him. Two days later he deeded “to my son Thomas Stewart of Voluntown” land by the north side of Pocomuck Pond in Voluntown. He died between this date and July 20 1742, when John, William and James Stewart and Margaret and Thomas Hungerford, all of East Haddam, Thomas and Samuel Stewart, both of Voluntown . deeded to their brother Nathaniel of Voluntown land in that town “belonging to our honoured father Alexander Stewart, deceased.” May 19, 1743, Samuel Stewart of Voluntown sold to Benjamin Pierce part of the land “my father Alexander Stewart, bought of Samuel Whalley.” April 21, 1746 Nathaniel Stewart of Voluntown sold land to his berother Samuel which “my father Alexander Stewart (deceased), bought from John Stoyell. (He married (2) November - , 1732 Jennet Rogers? His children :

Jennet/Rogers * Was the 2nd wife of Alexander Stewart that he married after Margaret Dixon's death. They had no children together. She had been married before to a Rogers. Rogers was not her maiden name. She had several children by Mr Rogers. One of Alexander's sons married one of her daughters.Less Modified

Alexander Stewart was born about 1675 in Balleymena, Antrim County, Ireland. His wife, Margaret Dixon was born in the same place in about 1677. They were married in Ireland about 1698 and immigrated to America in 1719, settling New London, Connecticut. On April 27, 1727 they bought a farm in Voluntown, Connecticut and settled there. They were spiritual minded people and brought a recommend from their church in Ireland and were received into the First Church of Christ (Congregational) in September 18, 1728. After the death of his wife Margaret, Alexander married Janet Rogers of Voluntown, Connecticut, November 17, 1732. The children of Alexander and Margaret are:
