Biography

Margaret was born in 1677. She is the daughter of Robert Dixson and Priscilla Kennedy. She married Alexander Stewart prior to 1701, then immigrating to America, settling in Voluntown, Connecticut. She was the mother of at least 8 children: Alexander II, John, Margaret 1704, William 1705, Thomas, James, Samuel and Nathaniel. Patrick 5th Laird Ledcreich Stewart 1697, She passed away in 1729.
It is believed that Margaret Dixon was either the sister of cousin of John and Robert Dixon, first of New London and then of Voluntown. TheStewarts and the Dixons evidently came from Ireland at the same time and they were situated in the same towns after arriving at Conn. Thisremains to be proven.

Margaret Dixon was born about 1677 in Balleymena, Antrim County, Ireland. Her husband Alexander Stewart born in the same place in about 1675. They were married in Ireland about 1698 and immigrated to America in1719, settling New London, Connecticut. On April 27, 1727 they boughta farm in Voluntown, Connecticut and settled there. They were spiritual minded people and brought a recommend from their church in Ireland and were received into the First Church of Christ (Congregational) in September 18, 1728.
