15 May 1494: Charter under the Great Seal of Scotland which confirms Alexander, Lord Hume's possession of Thorntoun and other lands in East Lothian. Tenants there included John Montgomery, and Alison Hamilton, daughter of the deceased Archibald Hamilton of Innerwick: "Alisone Hammyltoun filie quondam Arch. H. de Innerweik militis". 7 May 1502: A Precept of confirmatioun maid in our soverane lordis name, for him and his successouris, stewartis of Scotland, confirmand the charter and fewferme maid be Johne Montgumry of Thorntoun to ALISON HAMMYLTOUN, dochter to Archibald Hammyltoun of Innerwike, knycht, of al and hale the landis of Thorntoun, Ovir and Nethir, Estir Akyngal, Westir Akyngall, Creichnois, and Monynet, with the toure, fortales, and myln of the sammjn, liand within the constabulary of Hadingtoune and schirefdome of Renfrew . . . nochtwithstanding that the said gift and grant was maid and gevin withoute consent of [or] siifficient confirmatioun of our soverane lorde as stewarte of Scotland, immediate ourlord of the saidis landis : And als his hienes declaris that his mynde and will is nocht that ony prejudice be generit to the saidis Alisoun or Johne, or to Alexander lord Hume, grete chaumerlane, or his aeris, now tenentis to the king of the said landis, for the alienation of the sammyn ony maner of way in tyme tocum : Saufand to our soveran lord richtis and dewiteis . .
