Sir Archibald Hamilton of Innerwick, here treated, had a precept of sasine for the lands of Innerwick in 1454. RSRS 1437-1487: p. 662

Death

A date and place of death has not been identified for Sir Archibald Hamilton of Innerwick. Heraldry of the Hamiltons claims that he died before July 1488, Hamilton Heraldry: p. 125 and this is followed by the Scots Peerage, which suggests that he died between 1482 and July 1488] Both are wrong.

Sir Archibald Hamilton of Innerwick was alive on 5 May 1491, upon which date he and his eldest son and heir, Hugh Hamilton, witnessed a charter made in favour of Archibald Bog of Uchterstoun, RMS 1424-1513: charter number 2029 but he died before 15 May 1494, when he is noticed as the deceased father of Alison Hamilton: "Alisone Hammyltoun filie quondam Arch. H. de Innerweik militis". RMS 1424-1513: charter number 2211

Marriage

Sir Archibald Hamilton of Innerwick is said to have married Margaret, daughter of John Montgomerie of Thornton, but there is no direct evidence of this. The Scots Peerage IV: p. 304

Biographical Summary Copied from The Scots Peerage

In 1454 he received from the Crown sasine of the lands and others mentioned in the charter above referred to. On 10 May 1458 he had from John Stewart, Lord of Darnley, a charter of the lands of Ballencreiff and others. He was knighted between 1458 and 1465, and died between 1482 and July 1488. He is said to have married Margaret, daughter of John Montgomerie of Thornton, but there is no direct evidence of this. He left issue. The Scots Peerage IV: p. 304

22 November 1468: Charter granted by Hew Montgumry of Thorntoun in favour of Marjory Flemyng and John of Montgumry his first born son and heir apparent and the longest liver of them two in conjunct infeftment (on account of the marriage and matrimony to be completed between them) and the heirs male to be lawfully procreated between them whom failing to the most lawful and nearest heirs of the said Hugh whomsoever of his lands of Owyr Thorntoun lying in the lordship of Thornton; to hold of him and his heirs for payment yearly of a silver penny at the feast of Whitsunday on the ground of the said lands in name of blench farm if asked only. 22 November 1476: Letters of summons under the Signet at the instance of John of Swyntoune of that ilk, Kt, against PATRIK HAMMILTON, SON TO THE LAIRD OF INNERWICK, and Patrik of Smeton, who had come to the lands of Cranschawis with their accomplices in disobedience of the King's letters and taken away with them two horse, and loosing two - ordaining the restoration of the said horses and summoning the said Patriks to compear. At Edinburgh. 28 Nov, Simon Spardur, sheriff, travelled to Dunbar and delivered two horses taken from Cranschawis by Patrick Hamilton and Patrick Smeton to the tenants, and the other two horses that were borrowed. Patrick Hamilton was summoned at Dunbar Castle before Symon Salman and John of Hebburn, and Patrik of Smeton at his dwelling place, to compear at Edinburgh or wherever required on the 8th January to answer the above charges. 5 May 1491: Charter by which John Bog of Uchterstoun confirms that he has given Uchterstoun and other lands in the sheriffdom of Berwick to his son Archibald. The principal witness to the charter was Sir Archibald Hamilton of Innerwick and his son and heir Hugh Hamilton.

The charter printed in the Great Seal Register is in Latin. It reads as follows: "REX confirmavit cartam Johannis Bog de Uchtcrstoun, — [qua — pro singulari favore, etc.,— concessit filio suo ARCHIBALDO BOG — terras de Uchterstoun, Burnehowsis, Oxindene, Harkaris, et Risibriggis, in comitatu Marchie, vic.
